What DOCOMO reported

DOCOMO’s final notice says some 5G SA customers across Japan experienced voice, data and SMS disruption from about 11:18 JST on November 5 to 01:20 on November 6. DOCOMO attributed the disruption to congestion in switching equipment serving 5G SA users and reported no signs of unauthorized access or attack in its investigation at that point. Emergency calls, MVNOs using DOCOMO’s network, and 5G and 4G for customers outside 5G SA were unaffected.

Verify which fallback paths are independent

Test how payment terminals, remote offices and IoT gateways respond to 5G SA degradation. Exercise carrier failover, offline buffering and retransmission after service returns. Dual SIMs help only if the relevant upstream paths are independent. The incident illustrates possible demand for multi-carrier connectivity, end-to-end availability monitoring and offline transaction design. It does not establish that new tenders have opened.
